This summer, Gothic Opera’s Der Vampyr will be coming to the Grimeborn Festival in a brand new revised version.

This innovative production achieved a sell-out run in 2019 and launched Gothic Opera on to the London opera scene. The opera was composed by Heinrich Marschner in 1828, and its plot has its origins in the short story The Vampyre, written by John William Polidori, putting it right at the heart of the gothic genre.

Be prepared for a hilarious and gory feminist retelling of this bloody tale, touching on themes of consent, agency and toxic masculinity. Performed in a new arrangement for chamber orchestra, sung in German with surtitles in English and with newly-written spoken dialogue.

Arcola Theatre, London

Wednesday 14 August - Saturday 17 August
