Gothic Opera is a female-led opera company specialising in the rich canon of neglected works that take their inspiration from Gothic fiction. Our mission is to appeal to regular opera-goers who are attracted by unusual repertoire, as well as to audiences with little experience of opera. We open our work to community groups and have a strong online presence. Our work reduces nervousness and uncertainty around opera attendance. ​

The eclectic crowds at our sold-out performances of our inaugural production, Der Vampyr, included a high proportion of people under 35, many of whom reported to be first time opera goers. Der Vampyr also received a nomination for an Off-West End Award in the Best Opera category. We appeared on In Tune on BBC Radio 3, and featured in prestigious publications including Elle UK and Opera Now.
